When moving from one home to another, it may require some disassembling of items to get them through doorways or to haul them. When the removal of legs on furniture is necessary to move it, put all of the parts together. Wrap all of the legs in a soft cloth and use a small medicine bottle to keep all of the screws with the legs. After arriving at the new location, all of the parts, including the hardware are altogether.
Disassemble as little as possible. Disassemble large items such as an entertainment center into two parts if possible; this will make it easier to reassemble later on. Be aware that many bookcases, desks and furniture are a pressboard material. After disassembling these, many times there is damage to the existing screw holes. Always try to move this type of furniture as little as possible. If there is no other option other than moving them as a whole unit, try to support them by wrapping them with cardboard and taping with strong tape before moving them. By keeping all of the parts together, including the small pieces will reduce the stress of trying to find parts when it’s time to reassemble.

Moving can be a challenge if you are not prepared for it. The clutter that occurs from sorting your belongings and the many boxes and supplies that build in your home are a headache. The key to an easy move is organization. You should start with one room at a time so as not to overwhelm yourself. Bedrooms are the easiest to begin with since you can pack everything up and not have to worry about using items you already packed away. Be sure to have plenty of boxes on hand or even totes since they don’ t fall apart if they get wet. If you are using cardboard boxes, plenty of packing tape is necessary to close the boxes. Also, a black marker can be used to write on the boxes so you know what is in each one. Each box should house one type of item such as clothing or bedding. If packing in the living room, keep breakable items together and wrap them in old newspaper so they don’t break. Kitchen utensils should be all in one box and any food should be kept together as well. Toiletries should stay together as well. Organization is key to moving!

Moving in itself can be very stressful. Anytime you move anything from one location to another, there can be all kinds of things that come up. By taking some time to plan the move in advance, you can save yourself a lot of headaches, grief and money.

Start planning your move as soon as you find out about the upcoming move. Consider what it is that you are moving. If this will be a move requiring a lot of items to be moved, decide what the best route for you to take is. Would it be helpful to have movers help load up and move your belongings? Call around to several different movers to get ideas of prices and services. By shopping around, you can assure yourself that you are getting the best deal.

If you will not be requiring a moving company, do you have access or use of equipment to help with your move? Find out if you have to move everything at once or if you are able to move things slowly. Begin packing the things for your move early. It is best to take time to pack things properly and safely. If you wait until the last minute, you are more likely to pack haphazardly and risk breaking your belongings.

If you’ve ever found yourself in a situation where you have a period of limbo between Point A and Point B and have nowhere to house your belongings, you might want to consider the POD option of temporary storage. POD (which stands for Portable On Demand moving) have been around since 1998 and has revolutionized the way our ever-mobile society handles the often tedious task of moving. The company delivers an empty storage container to the location of your choice and leaves it for you to fill and pack at your convenience and at your pace. You then call them back once the container is filled and they store it at a local facility until it is time for you to actually need your items at which time they will move the container for you across town or clear across country if needed. If you’re worried about security, worry not. You lock the container and retain the only key. And if you live in a wintery climate and worry about snow or water damage before your POD is taken to the storage facility you can rest assured that the containers are weather-resistant and they have been designed to withstand winds of up to 110 mph when partially filled. The containers come in three sizes: 8x7x7, 8x8x12, and 8x8x16 to fit pretty much every need. The company also offers moving supplies like boxes, wrapping paper, and tape to make your moving experience truly a one-stop affair. We love the concept of PODS, and we think you will, too.

With locations throughout the nation, Two Men and a Truck are one of the top moving companies around. Offering packages for every type of situation, the movers will provide all the help you need for your next move.To start with, Two Men and a Truck offer twelve different types of moving services. The most popular options are the full and partial pack. With a full pack, the movers will take care of everything in your home; from your fridge to your dining room, they will pack it all. However, with the partial pack, you have more control over what the movers touch. If you need help with certain items or just want select rooms professionally packed, the company is negotiable. Two Men and a Truck offer smaller services, too. You can hire them just to unpack, unload, load, move certain furnishings, or to come in and rearrange a room. Just about anything you could need, the moving company can provide. Almost each of the above options is available for the company’s remaining services: local, intrastate, interstate, business, and home moves. If these packages are essential for your move, find your closest locale using the online location finder.

The moving process can cause you to forget the simplest tasks. However, we found some tips on U-Haul’s website that were particularly helpful. So we’re sharing them with you, and hopefully, they will make your move run smoothly, too.Take the time offWhile not working on the weekends has its benefits, moving during the week means that all the services you need (like banks) are open.Leave it onThis tip only applies if you’re moving within the city; however, if that applies to you, the advice is extremely helpful. Don’t turn off your utilities on moving day. Leaving everything on gives you a few extra days to clean and load a few more items. The extra time will take off a little stress, too.The packing processGet your equipment early (U-Haul suggests 2-4 weeks) and fill a couple boxes daily. Making time early will leave less for moving day. Plus, make sure you label each box with the room and items inside, like “Kitchen;” “utensils;” “cutting board;” “towels;” etc.Get carpets cleanerDon’t try to clean those floors on your own. Hire a carpet cleaner.Fido, Stay!If you’re moving within the same city, leave animals with a friend or local kennel. However, if your family lives there and you visit frequently, the same tip could apply for long distance moving, too.Source: U-Haul.com

The Mayflower ship was responsible for bringing some of first settlers to America. So who better to trust with your move than a company named after that same ship?Mayflower was established in 1927; which means they’ve had 83 years of experience moving valuables and household items. One type of move the company prides itself on is long distance relocation. However, whether you are moving down the street or across country, there are a few different services on offer.Similar to Public Storage, Mayflower can accommodate your boxes during the moving process and after. Furthermore, the movers will pack the boxes for you. The company takes their responsibility seriously, so they train their employees to be safe movers. In-fact, each mover must complete a specialized program to prepare them for safe packaging.Yet, if disaster does strike, Mayflower has coverage plans, too. Choose from five different options on their full value coverage plan. Increments range from nothing to 1,000, and whichever you chose, your goods are protected up until that cost. The free option, released rate liability, covers each item by the pound; however, you’re only given 60cents for each pound.Another great feature is Mayflower’s CityPointe program. The company will help you with the more intricate part of your move: learning more about local schools and the city itself, as well as realtor referrals. Using the program offers potential cash back when it comes to the home buying and selling process, too.Regardless of the services you need, Mayflower will look out for you during your move.
